Ttangggut Monorail

Ttangggut monorail car provides a place where tourists who visited Ttangggut could appreciate beauty of Ttangggut more vividly and in order to remove inconvenience of the disabled and the elderly who could not reach Ttangggut observatory, Haenam-gun and Korea Monorail Co., Ltd. have completed installation project of Ttangggut monorail car under joint venture and they started its operation by having opening ceremony 2 P.M. on December 19, 2005.

Ttangggut Observatory

This site as a center of local tourism for its geographical features of southernmost tip of Korean peninsula (Ttangggut) played a pivotal role of southern coast tourism backed by heavenly blessed natural landscape embracing surrounding thick forest and curious rocks. As a tourist attraction together with dinosaur fossil site of Woohang-ri, Dooryoonsan and Daedoonsan, this site is located at the summit of Sajabong of Galdoosan (156.2m) that is the last peak extended by branch of Noryeong range as the optimal tourist attraction linked with surrounding Songho Beach. As coastal tourist road extending 22km is linked, excellent scenery of archipelago is provided and to the north of the continent, thick pine tree forest is located and widely open blue sea is unfolded to the southeastern-western side and to the south, islands of archipelago such as Heukildo, Baeildo, Bogildo and Nohwado that are the starting point of wide ocean could be watched and on sunny days, Choojado and Jejudo could be watched. This is a sole place throughout the country where sunrise and sunset could be watched at one place.

Songho Beach

Songho beach that is unfolded before going to Ttangggut village is the most typical beach of Haenam. Songho was named as the coastal side is thick with old pine trees and fine sand and clear, quiet sea wave looks like a lake.

Songho beach is good for enjoying by families as sand is fine and water depth is swallow and big cone pine aged hundreds of years constitute scenery forest. As it extends for app. 1km along the bank, it is good for camping under pine tree forest. This pine tree forest was designated as natural monument No. 142 of Chunam and 600 pine trees aged app. two hundred years are extended as a function of coastal wind break forest.

Sagoomi Beach

Sagoomi beach is located at the place in front of Sagoomi village along coastal road between Ttangggut Galdoo and Namchang and it keeps freshness of virgin ocean as it is. As a place that has not yet been developed, it is a good place for the families to take a rest quietly. As this place provides proper shade by creation of sandy beach of app. 1.5km and pine tree forest, it is suitable for camping as well. In addition, splendid view of sunset that could be enjoyed at Sagoomi is really excellent. Sunset remotely setting to the left of Ttangggut Sajabong dyes small islands of archipelago in red color.

This place is also famous for the best drive course as coastal road is turning round embracing superb scenery of archipelago. Coastal road is extended from summit of Songji-myeon to Namchang of Bukpyeong-myeon through Ttaangggut Galdoo. Particularly Sagoomi beach and the place around Namseong-ri of Bukpyeong-myeon among this coastal road is the best fantastic drive course.

This Songho beach is a good place to be enjoyed by children or family as its sand is fine and its water depth is swallow and seaside pine trees aged hundreds of years constitute scenery forest. As this beach extended for app. 1km along the bank, it is suitable for camping under pine tree forest. This pine tree forest is currently designated as natural monument No. 142 of Chunam and about 600 pine trees aged over 200 years were unfolded as a function of seaside windbreak forest.

Ttangggut Sculpture Park

In Ttangggut sculpture park located at Sagoomi beach, 26 pieces of high-level works of domestic veteran artists and famous artists are exhibited.

Dalmasan

Dalmasan (489m) is formed by uneven rocky ridges such as back of dinosaur just like a Geumgangsan of Namdo and while climbing the trail along the ridge, a pleasure of being able to appreciate remote archipelago is accompanied. As Geumsam (golden spring) giving an impression that its water surface seems to be totally covered with gold powder is located in Dalmasan, visitors may feel a mysterious mood.

Dosolam

Dosolam of Dosolbong, Dalmasan is one of 12 small temples of Mihwangsa and it is said that this temple is a place where Euijohwasang of United Silla Era who built this temple enjoyed sunset while leading a monastic life. Location of Dosolam is unusually unique but surrounding scenery and as the place where Buddhist sanctuary is located are too miraculous and beautiful, this place is recently frequented by a lot of visitors as a shooting place of drama.

Mihwangsa

Mihwangsa is an old temple that supports a theory of sea route introduction of Korean Buddhism and it provides a praying ground with excellent natural scenery as its backdrop. This temple is said to be founded by Euijohwasang during King Kyeongseok of Silla era. This temple was burnt during Jeongyujaeran (Japanese re-invasion during Lee Dynasty) but was rebuilt during Yeojo and for its splendid and delicate view, this temple is listed as the best model of pillar beam pattern in the architecture of post Choseon era.
