This is a civil application for issuance of alien passport and can be submitted to individual embassy after making a reservation for visit. For details, please contact embassy of concern.
Application for passport
Application for issuance of passport is subject to the policy of “in-person-application” (Article 9 Item 2 of the Amended Passport Act) and thus individuals should visit in person.
-However, for national protocol, medical reason, or minors less than 18 years old age, application by substitute is permitted.
#possible representatives: 1) person with parental right, guardian, legal substitute; 2) spouse; 3) siblings of the individual or spouse who are 18 years old and above.

#standard of passport photo- More details of the policy can be confirmed at “Passport” section in the Oversea Safe Travel website (www.0404.go.kr) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- The passport photo should be taken within recent six months, its size is width 3.5cm x height 4.5cm in color, and it should project straight in the face.
- Both ears should appear, no ear rings are allowed, and teeth must not be revealed when smiling.
- horn-rimmed glasses are not allowed when wearing glasses (if possible, glasses not worn)
- Original passport and a copy of Passport (include the side of personal information, entry visa and sojourn visa of China)
- In case minors (less than less than 18 years old age) directly apply for passport in person
- Consent form for passport issuance that an assentient fills out.
- An original copy of certificate of one's seal impression,
- In case the assentient applies, then visit us and fill out the agreement on issuance of passport
- #assentient: Parents, person with parental right, guardian, legal substitute
- In case of divorced parents: whoever has legal parental right will assent
- In case parents with the parental right stay in foreign country: the person with parental right have to submit the consent form for passport issuance either notarized by a certified notary or confirmed by the Consul at Korean Consulate of jurisdiction in the country they stay.
Passport production and required time
After the electronic passport that we receive is transferred to online on the same day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade produces passport and returns it back to us through a diplomatic bag. Therefore, if there is no problem in issuing a passport, the electronic passport that is applied for this week will be received on Friday next week.
# If a problem occurs during the issue process (photo, evaluation of related departments), it may take more than two weeks. Every Thursday night, we post application numbers whose passports have been delivered to us through the diplomatic bag. If you want your passport without waiting for regular delivery, you can receive yours by DHL (taking 3 – 4 days) after paying for the shipping fee by yourself.
# If you want to receive DHL’s express delivery as soon as possible, please follow the procedure below and pay for the delivery charge. And then print out the payment screen and receipt of credit card so that they may be turned to the reception desk when you apply for the passport in person.
